Awards 2011
Introduction Criteria How to Enter The Judges Previous Winners
"As the preparations for the launch of the third Jolomo Awards near their conclusion, I look back on what we have achieved so far through the Jolomo Awards in 2007 & 2009. My first thoughts are of the quality of entries we have attracted to the first two Awards. All the hard work of The Jolomo Foundation Board in setting up and running the Awards since 2006 has been rewarded by the high quality of the entries received and it gives me a real sense of encouragement that the foreseeable future of landscape painting in Scotland is in safe hands.
The Jolomo Foundation, a registered charity, seeks to help artists of any age and nationality who are living and working in Scotland to develop their painting using the Scottish landscape as a source of inspiration. Amongst so much else, we at The Foundation have been buoyed up by the wide range of the ages of artists entering the Awards, from 22 to 71 years, telling us that an 'emerging' artist does not always have to be young.
Bank of Scotland is a long standing supporter of the arts in Scotland and I am delighted to have them as our sponsor for our 2011 Awards. This continues our successful relationship with the Lloyds Banking Group since the inaugural Awards in 2007. The Scotsman are our media partners again and I am most grateful to them for their ongoing support.
In all of what we seek to achieve there is a huge amount which is unseen, not least of which is the Herculean task undertaken by our Judging Panel who give so generously of their time. All the entries to the Awards are viewed anonymously by each of the judges. This is a huge piece of work leading to the Judging Panel meeting those artists shortlisted for the Awards, viewing their entries and eventually deciding who will be the winners. We have the same Judging Panel from the 2009 Awards in place again. For the fantastic work in all they do, my sincere thanks go to: Nick Curnow, Manus Fullerton, Geoff Kranenburg, John Leighton and Susan Mansfield.
We look forward to welcoming you to the Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum in Glasgow in June for the presentation of the Jolomo Bank of Scotland Awards 2011"
